For a person with ADHD, this happens more often and to a greater extent than for people who don&#8217;t have the condition. It can have a significant impact on their education, work, and home life. These types are inattentive, hyperactive-impulsive, and a combination of both.<br\/>Mostly inattentive<br\/>As the name suggests, people with this type of ADHD have severe difficulty concentrating, completing tasks, and following instructions. This can include:<br\/>restlessness<br\/>Interrupting people while speaking<br\/>They can&#8217;t wait for their turn<br\/>Although neglect of this type of ADHD is less noticed, people with predominantly hyperactive-impulsive ADHD may still find it difficult to focus on tasks. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Hyperactive-impulsive_and_inattentive_combination_type\"><\/span><strong>Hyperactive-impulsive and inattentive combination type<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\">It is the most common type of ADHD. People with this type of ADHD combination show symptoms of inattentiveness and hyperactivity. These include an inability to pay attention, a tendency to impulsivity, and higher-than-average levels of activity and energy.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_causes_ADHD\"><\/span><strong>What causes ADHD?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p><br\/>Despite ADHD being a common condition, doctors and researchers are still unsure what causes the condition. It is believed to be of neurological origin. Genetics may also play a role.  <br\/>A reliable source of research suggests that a decrease in dopamine is a factor in ADHD. Dopamine is a chemical in the brain that helps transmit signals from one nerve to another. It plays a role in stimulating emotional reactions and movements.  <br\/>Research from another reliable source suggests that there is a structural difference in the brain. The findings show that people with ADHD have a lower volume of gray matter. Gray matter includes areas of the brain that help to:<br\/>Speech, Speech<br\/>Self-control<br\/>Decision<br\/>Muscle Control  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"ADHD_diagnosis_and_testing\"><\/span><strong>ADHD diagnosis and testing<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>To make a diagnosis, your doctor will evaluate any symptoms you or your child has had in the past 6 months.<br\/>Your doctor will likely collect information from teachers or family members and may use checklists and rating scales to check for symptoms. They also perform a physical exam to check for other health problems. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"ADHD_Treatment\"><\/span><strong>ADHD Treatment<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\">Treatment for ADHD usually includes behavioral therapies, medication, or both.<br\/>Types of treatment include psychotherapy or speech therapy. With speech therapy, you or your child talk about how ADHD affects your life and ways to help manage it. <br\/>Another type of therapy is behavioral therapy. This therapy can help you or your child learn how to monitor and manage your behavior. <br\/>When you&#8217;re living with ADHD, medication can also be very helpful. ADHD medications are designed to affect brain chemicals to enable you to better control your impulses and actions. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"ADHD_medication\"><\/span><strong>ADHD medication<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right has-ast-global-color-8-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-9d445bb8285c205d8a6a016fabf91e2d\">The two main types of medications used to treat ADHD are stimulant and non-stimulant.<br\/>Central nervous system (CNS) stimulants are the most common ADHD medications. These drugs work by increasing the amount of brain chemicals dopamine and norepinephrine.<br\/>Examples of these medications include methylphenidate (Ritalin) and amphetamine-based stimulants (Adderall).If the stimulants don&#8217;t work well or cause troublesome side effects for you or your child, your doctor may suggest a non-stimulant medication.
