This type of collagen is present in the basal membrane of the glomeruli of the kidneys, inner ear, and eyes. <\/p>\n\n<p>Allport syndrome (AS) is a progressive genetic kidney disease that, in most cases, appears in the first decade of life. As the disease progresses, kidney function decreases and patients develop ESRD (end-stage renal disease). It is caused by an abnormality in the gene that codes for collagen type 4 and is commonly seen in patients with this syndrome, hematuria (the presence of blood in the urine), proteinuria (the presence of protein in the urine), edema, and high blood pressure.  <br\/>If a person has Allport syndrome, it is characterized by kidney disease, hearing loss, and eye abnormalities.<\/p>\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_Allport_syndrome_is_transmitted\"><\/span>How Allport syndrome is transmitted<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"X-related_Allport_syndrome\"><\/span>X-related Allport syndrome:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>It is the most common type of this syndrome. 80% of patients with Allport syndrome have this type of disorder. Usually, in this type of disorder, men have more severe symptoms than women.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Autosomal_Recessive\"><\/span>Autosomal Recessive:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>When both parents have abnormal genes, the child may develop this type of syndrome. In this type of disorder, the severity of the disease is equal in men and women. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Autosomal_predominant\"><\/span>Autosomal predominant:<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p>When only one parent has a disease and passes on the gene to the child, it will be automazole of the Ghal type. In the dominant type, men and women are equally affected. <\/p>\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_are_the_symptoms_of_Allport_syndrome\"><\/span>What are the symptoms of Allport syndrome?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Blood in the urine that cannot be seen with the eye (microscopic hematuria)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Presence of protein in the urine (proteinuria)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chronic kidney disease or kidney failure<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hearing loss<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Eye problems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p>Symptoms of kidney failure include:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Swelling (edema), especially in the entire hand or ankle<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Extreme fatigue<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nausea and vomiting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cramps<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Complications_of_Allport_syndrome\"><\/span>Complications of Allport syndrome<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n\n<p>Kidney Diseases<br\/>High blood pressure<br\/>Kidney failure<br\/>Progressive hearing loss<\/p>\n\n<p>Anterior lens<br\/>Cataracts<br\/>Retinal problems<br\/>Blindness<br\/>Blurred vision<br\/>Severe eye pain<br\/>Posterior polymorphic corneal dystrophy<br\/>Thoracic or abdominal aortic aneurysms in some men with AS syndrome<\/p>\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Methods_of_diagnosis_of_Allport_syndrom\"><\/span>Methods of diagnosis of Allport syndrom<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n\n<p>Urine test: A urine test helps diagnose proteinuria and hematuria. <br\/>Blood tests: Blood tests help find the levels of protein and waste products in your blood. <br\/>Glomerular filtration rate :(eGFR) studies the function of the kidneys in excreting waste.<br\/>In addition to the above, kidney biopsy, hearing test, vision test, and genetic testing are also used to diagnose AS.<br\/>Diagnosis is typically made pathologically, but recent advances in comprehensive genetic analysis have made it possible to test for AS as a first-line diagnosis.<\/p>\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Treatment_of_Allport_syndrome\"><\/span>Treatment of Allport syndrome<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h1>\n\n<p>Medications to control high blood pressure or ACE inhibitors<br\/>Diuretics (diuretic tablets)<br\/>Limiting salt in the diet<br\/>Dialysis: In case of kidney failure, a device similar to an artificial kidney is used to filter the blood. <\/p>\n\n<p><br\/><br\/><br\/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is Allport syndrome?
